OBAMA WINS NOMINATION! I WAS THERE! I TOOK THIS PIC!

WOOHOO!
June 3, 2008
I never imagined Barack Obama would choose Minnesota as the site to end his primary campaign and claim the nomination, BUT HE DID! He knew the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul would be the site of the Republican National Convention in 2 months, so he decided he would show them up, and come HERE to claim VICTORY over Hillary Clinton on this glorious last night of the primary season.
I set the timer on my VCR to MSNBC to make certain to record the speech, and then I made the 35 minute drive to the X, hoping to arrive early enough at 4pm. The line already wrapped completely around the arena, and extended down 7th Avenue, where I jumped into the end of the line about 3/4th of a block down. By the time the doors finally opened, an hour earlier than scheduled, the line extended a full mile and a half long. I got a GREAT lower level seat in section 108, row 14 (from the floor), seat 2, which is located to the right and behind the podium.
It also happened to be my mother's birthday, and being a political activist, there could be no greater present to her than to witness this historic event. Unfortunately, she got there later than I did, and had to sit in the nosebleed section behind me, but at least she wasn't one of the 15,000 that didn't get into the arena.
A camera panned the crowd for a time before Obama took the stage, and I saw myself on the jumbotron screen high above the arena, wearing my Batman ball cap, and showing off my bright blue "Madia for Congress" t-shirt. I know some in the crowd were happy to see that shirt, as Madia is running in our 3rd congressional district for the US House of Representatives, and has a good shot of winning a traditional Republican seat this time around.
The place was electric when Michelle and Barack took the stage, and the rest is history. There was one point where I became a bit unruly. Obama was talking about McCain, and I just could not control myself. I blurted out...."McBUSH SUCKS!". It was actually difficult to hear Obama during his speech from where I sat, and the jumbotron did have closed captioning so that I could look up to read what Obama was saying, even though it was delayed. But when I got home, I watched the playback of the speech, and low and behold, I heard myself blurting out "McBUSH SUCKS!". It was a little difficult to make out, since Obama was speaking over me, but it was there, and now I have it saved for all posterity!

And then.... The Knife!
As my life force drains rapidly in 2008, I had hoped my life would be saved by a transfusion of one grand final farewell Genesis tour. Now there will be no donor to save me. There is no more guiding vocal, no living forever. I am down and out!
I love it when Genesis pops up when I least expect it!

I was watching Dan Abrams on MSNBC last night, and discovered someone there on the set likes Genesis. I found it amusing that in the background, they chose to play about 10 to 15 seconds of "The Brazillian", while Dan told a news story about a convenience store robber who accidentally shot himself in the right testicle and lower left leg while in the act of putting his gun in his waistband of his pants after getting a bag of cash, and while waiting for the clerk to give him the pack of cigarettes he also demanded. The entire incident was caught on a surveillance camera, and the robber was hospitalized, underwent surgery, and was arrested for armed robbery. Hmmm, wonder what other Genesis song they could have played for this segment instead of "The Brazillian?"
